What it actually does

The same six lines we read out across the counter, in the same order, so you can hold them against anything else you are considering.

Hold
9 of 10. A hard part stays put through a shift and a bus home. It will not hold a quiff taller than about 14 cm, and no water-based pomade will.
Finish
Low shine, a touch dry. It looks like clean hair rather than product. Photographs well under a flash, which is why it is the tin in most of our pictures.
Base
Water and beeswax, thickened with carnauba. No petrolatum, no mineral oil, no added colour. Unscented, because the barbers who buy it in bulk asked for that.
Hair it suits
Straight to wavy, medium or thick, 3 to 12 cm on top. Works on coarse grey hair. Too heavy for fine hair, which it flattens — Grooming Cream No. 3 is the one for that.
How much
One fingertip scoop, about 3 g. Warm it between the palms until it turns clear, then work it from the crown forward through damp — not wet — hair. Two scoops only past 10 cm.
Washes out
Warm water alone, one rinse, no shampoo. In the hard water along this coast you may feel a film on day three; a plain shampoo once a week clears it.
Wrong for you if
Your hair is fine or thinning, you want visible shine, or you want to re-style at midday — once this sets, re-wetting is the only way to move it.

Three minutes, once

Putting it in

One. Towel the hair until it stops dripping. Damp is the word; soaking hair dilutes the hold and dry hair will not take it evenly.

Two. Take one fingertip scoop and rub it between the palms for about ten seconds, until it goes from white to clear. Cold pomade drags.

Three. Start at the crown, pull forward, then shape with a comb. Whatever is on your hands at the end goes on the beard, not back in the tin.

A 100 ml tin at one scoop a day lasts about eleven weeks. If it is going faster than that, you are using two where one would do.

In the box, on the road, and back again

What is in the box?

One 100 ml tin with a screw lid, a card the size of a beer mat with the dose scored into it so you can see what 3 g looks like, and a 7 g sample of Grooming Cream No. 3 in case the hold turns out to be too strong for you. Board box, paper tape, no plastic and no tissue paper. The ingredient list in INCI order is printed on the base of the tin, not on a sticker that peels.

Delivery cost and time

Mainland Spain €4.50, two to four working days, free over €40. Balearics and Canaries €7.90. Rest of the European Union €9.50, four to eight working days, duty paid by us. Everything leaves on the Thursday run; order before Wednesday noon and you are on that week's.

Returns window

Thirty days from the day it lands, opened or sealed, no seal to break and no questions about how much is left. Return postage inside Spain is ours. Tell us what your hair did and we will post the tin we should have sold you instead, charging or refunding the difference.

Ingredients and allergens

Water, beeswax, candelilla and carnauba waxes, castor oil, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, a PVP film-former and a phenoxyethanol preservative. No parabens, no colour, no fragrance of any kind, so there is no limonene or linalool to declare. Made in a cosmetics workshop registered with the Spanish medicines agency; the batch number is stamped inside the lid.

What if it is wrong for my hair?

Three things usually go wrong, and each has an answer on the shelf. Flat, heavy-looking hair means your hair is finer than this tin wants: Grooming Cream No. 3. No shine at all when you wanted some: Vuelta Oil Pomade. Setting too hard to touch: Media Luz, the same base at hold 6. Send this one back within thirty days and we will swap it.

It comes out with water

That is the whole argument for a water-based tin, and the reason this one outsells the rest four to one. Buy it, or spend four minutes making sure.
